Tamsier Joof Aviance

He is the founder of both the Seereer Resource Centre and Seereer Radio. A proud Seereer who strongly believes in the preservation of Seereer culture, history and ultra orthodox Seereer religion (a ƭat Roog) and makes no apologies for it. Highly opinionated on all matters relating to the Seereer ethnic group and has no fear voicing it. Join him on Saturdays and Sundays for Cosaan Seereer and The Seereer Religion and Culture Show - see details below.

A little bit about the man and his shows

Tamsier Joof "Aviance" (or Tamsier Aviance) holds an Accounting and Finance Degree, a Performing Arts Degree and a PGCE from Middlesex University, the London Studio Centre and the University of Wolverhampton. He has been a sitting Director on the board of two UK businesses namely: Bluewings Employment Security & Training Limited.and Blue Light Training Services Limited. He resigned from both companies to pursue other business activities.

Along with his business experience, Tamsier has also spent over 20 years in the entertainment and education sector as a performer, lecturer and consultant. For the past few decades, Tamsier has acquired/inherited and preserved several documents and artifacts relating to Seereer and Senegambian culture, history and traditional religion. He has also carried out and preserved several audio interviews about Senegambian history and culture, with many notable Senegambian elders some of whom are no longer with us.

Tamsier is the founder of the Seereer Resource Centre (SRC), an organisation he conceived in 2008 as a way of preserving Seereer history, culture and traditions, as well as providing resources to those interested in the Seereer languages, history, culture, religion and traditional medicinal practices. The website was officially launched in July 2013. As of 2016, it was and still is the only online Seereer resource dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Seereer languages, history, culture, religion, medicine, genealogy and family history,

In conjuction with the Seereer Resource Centre, the organisation he founded, Tamsier also founded Seereer Radio in December 2015, and the Station was officially launched on Tuesday, 5th January 2016 at midnight (GMT). He and his colleague Demba Sene co-presented the first programme live on-air, which was a mixture of The Seereer Religion and Culture Show and Cosaan Seereer - giving listeners a taste of what's to come.

Altough Seereer Radio is a recent Station (launched in 2016), the concept of launching an online Seereer radio station is not new. Tamsier has been planning it since 2007 / 2008 around the time he was conceptualising the idea of a Seereer Resource Centre. Around that time, Tamsier contacted Mbagnick Diouf (founder of Radio Goree Network / Les Griots du web) who later became a friend of his and a mentor. Following that contact, Serere Sine Radio was founded by Mbagnick. Not only do Tamsier view Mbagnick as a friend and a mentor, but also regard him as a great pioneer in the preservation of Seereer culture, history and traditions using the internet as a tool. As one can see in many of the Seereer Sine Radio links, Tamsier was a key contributor to that website and worked closely with Mbagnick Diouf - the founder. As Tamsier remarked on numerous occasions, he felt so much at home at Serere Sine Radio as he finally found someone (Mbagnick) who had a similar vision to his, something he has been looking for years. He believed in the concept of Serere Sine Radio and gave it his best to ensure it worked. Unfortunately the Station became stagnant and its full potential was not utilised. Tamsier has remarked numerous times that had the Serere Sine Radio project worked, he would have stayed there and would not have bothered to set up Seereer Radio, and most of the services the SRC provides would have been curtailed - as most of those services would have been provided by Serere Sine Radio, at least that was the plan which sadly did not materialise. Tamsier was extremly passionate about the Serere Sine Radio project and really wanted it to work. He was and still is saddened by the fact that the original plan for Serere Sine Radio did not come to fruition.

Tamsier strongly believes that :

"One cannot love Seereer history and culture yet despise Seereer religion. Seereer history and culture are closely linked to Seereer religion and cannot be separated from it. The true history and culture of the Seereer people is embedded in Seereer religion. And in similarity, the true history and culture of the African people is embedded in the Traditional African religions. To truly understand and appreciate our great history and culture, we must first love, respect and honour the religion of our forefathers in its orthodox form, free from any syncretism or dilution. Only then would we be able to decipher Seereer religion with a clean and open heart to get to the bottom of our true history and culture. It is in the Seereer religion where the secret ingredients which make up our history, culture, philosophy and civilisations are found."

Tamsier is a member of the legendary House of Aviance, made a member since May 2016 by the founder of the House - Mother Juan Aviance.
